    Default tyre sidewall damage

Whilst changing the front driver side tyre after a puncture I noticed severe damage to the inside tyre wall. It was scored all the way round with metal showing in places. This was the cause of the puncture. Lucky I noticed it!

Is there anything that could possibly cause this such as incorrect steering geometry etc. It looked like something had been rubbing against it.

The tyres are 225/45 R18's on a 1.9 SRi 150. They are the correct size for the model

The only thing that springs to mind (if you'll excuse the pun) is a broken spring sticking out against the tyre wall. Failing that, take the wheel off and have a good luck at all the components around that wheel station. If the tyre is that bad, the surface it would have been rubbing against will almost certainly be buffed shiny now.

I had a similar problem to what your describing.

I have exactly the same wheels. On mine I have the factory fit Bridgestone Potenzas.

When i noticed a slow puncture in one of my tyres, I took it to kwik fit to get it "repaired" when they took the tyre off the wheel they said it was simply unrepairable. There was a huge amount of very small rubber particles where the tyre had sheared itself apart because it had practically no air in it.

Because the tyres are ultra low profiles, they are steel lined, which gives them support, so you cannot tell when they are flat or not !!!

So because they tyres had gone flat but still looked normal, they had been shearing when driving along.

Basically the rule to be learnt is always check tyre prssure, espesh at near enuff £150 a tyre !!!

I would imagine u would have the same tyres if they are still the factory fit ones.

    Hope this helps !
