Default Loss of power, Engine Management Light, Spanner Light

I've noticed a few posts about this problem albeit a few years back and i'm not sure if there is any surefire solution.

The problem is the engine management/transmission warning light (the one with the spanner appearing through the car roof). In a higher gear, above approx 3000 revs, this warning light comes on and the car switches to 'safe mode' or limp home mode as it appears to be called on this thread. If i turn the engine off and then restart the light disappears.

Is there any new insight into the cause of this fault or an quick remedy as it appears to be something that is realatively common.

    Regards

    Shadrack

You need to get the fault code(s) read out. Takes away all the guesswork of what is wrong, which could be any number of things.

I understoood that the fault could only be read whilst the light is on?

As the light disappears when the engine is restarted this could make things difficult. I know you could get the read out yourself on earlier Vectra models. Is this possible on C models?

A mechanic kindly tested it for me for free the first time the power loss occurred but found nothing. Clearly this was no extensive check and at the time I took it as evidence of a temporary blip as indeed the Vauxhall Vectra User Manual implies. Needless to say the fault has happened too many times for this to be a 'one-off'.

Code is stored in memory. The light coming on then going off indicates there is a code in memory. So you can still get the code read without the need for the light to be on

As above mate could be any thing from egr valve ,boost sensor,s vacuum actuattors , split hoses ,etc .
Get the car tech 2 ed at a vx dealer , then record what the fault codes are that have been thrown up from there we should be able to steer you in the right direction
