On Saturday I did a major event on my car. As It's now done 102,000 miles I decided it was time to get some maintenance activity going on at this milestone in it life. So, on my 1.8 I did -
Oil and filter - last done at 81,000 - used long life 5W30 fully synthetic VX oil (service counter still had 3,000 miles to go!)
Air filter - never been changed before
Fitted filter monitor to new filter to 'ping' at 6kPa restriction - fairly normal for automotive intakes
Changed cam belt, tensioner, and rollers - last done at 60,000
Changed water pump, - never done before and had play in the main spindle, but no leakage.
Changed rear brake pads - noticed external caliper spring missing on near side causing uneven pad wear
Changed brake fluid ! ! - Hell yeah !
Reset service interval
Hand brake no longer clunks after changing rear pads.
No noticable change to brakes after doing fluid, and no noticable change to performance after doing air filter.
Engine quieter and runs more smoothly after changing belt and water pump.
As promised I will do a 'How to' for the belt change and water pump change.
