So I am looking for a cheap motor for the other half. She only wants something small and will only do 7-8k a year at the most. She has been looking at Ka's, Fiestas, Corsas, Clios etc.
What would you get? Must me that sort of size![]()

A fiat punto has just been mentioned. I know its a fiat but any advise?
Clio? Seen the advert - "you said you'd never buy a renault" DON'T BUY A RENAULT, especially not for £800. They are safe though...
I know it's a Ford, but the Ka is officially the cheapest car to run for years. The 1.3 Endura-E is a noisy old lump, but it's totally unbreakable as long as you change the timing belt.
My folks had a 1.3 Fiesta, and it went very well and was totally unbreakable. Other than fuel and a £40 service annually it cost them nothing.
I bought a Punto sporting, 98 S reg when we had our first baby as needed to down value the cars we had, I use it purely for work, I do 55 miles a day and it does fine. I would never buy another though. The floor pan is starting to rust, the head gasket went, the rear radius arms both went, several random electrical faults have occured, currently the air bag light is constantly on!! Definately stay away lol!! Mine has now done 75k but was on 45k when I bought it! On the plus side it is pretty good on fuel, averages around 43mpg and the tax is cheapish (around £110 I think!)
