If you have little kids don't take the seats with you, don't hire them from the car company either. Go to wallmart and buy them. Even though you are gonna chuck them at the end of your holiday it is still cheaper.

A lesson many people have learned too late!!!

I used Dollar, when you pick the car up they will usually tell you to fetch
the car back with a `full tank', I did this and got a recept saying this but
they still charged my card $40. Got the CC card company to deal with them.

Used dollar last year and they were great.

Picked up the car with a full tank of gas and was told that we did't need to fill it up before returning it.

Took it back with nearly empty tank and no additional charges what so ever

    Thumbs up

    Use Dollar car hire.
If you want to upgrade the car to something a bit more special, do it before you go its cheaper. They also hire satnavs.

Buy your fuel at 'Racetrack' petrol stations if your in the Orlando area as they are the cheapest and drop their prices first and raise them last.

Exactly so - IIRC Hertz wanted $10 per day per seat in Detroit - that adds $280 to the price - Walmart have then for $cheap, but I had the option to blag a couple from friends in Windsor, Canada - over the river from Detroit! Taking your own is just hassle at the airport, and depending which airline you fly, they may insist its counted as a piece of luggage against your two (whaterver) allowed etc.

FWIW when I flew down from Philly to Orlando, I prebooked a minivan (Zafira-like) in UK, but upgraded to a GMC Safari once there - nice big van with windows for six plus cases. All done through Alamo - huge operation near Orlando airport, with customer bus transfers etc to the depot, and very efficient service too.

Make sure you buy the 'Gold' package (or whatever it's called) - the free tank of gas is worth the £10 surcharge, plus there's no limit on mileage (we did 1100 in three days, going upstate to Panama City, but only put $56 in as the first tankful - 28 USgal in that truck - was free)
