    Default Service advice please

    Hi there guys,

I've finally got some time to myself and the Vectra is in need of a service. I've just had a browse through the service booklet and it tells me that it was serviced:

    40K on 2/3/2007
    (Full service)

    It's currently on:

    63K on 3/1/09

So It looks like I'll be needing to give it a full service. What would you typically need to replace and check for on a 2.0 DTI?

In the last month I have fitted new brake pads and drop links on the front.

    Thanks in advance!

Basically every odd service (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc) is nothing more than a glorified oil and filter change and visual inspection

    Renew :
    oil (5w30)
    oil filter
    air filter (optional)
    pollen filter (optional)
fuel filter (optional - check for water and drain if not being renewed)
brake fluid, if not renewed on 02/03/2007

    Check :
    Front brake pads and discs
    Rear brake pads and discs
    Coolant
    Power Steering
    Steering system
Wheel moutings, suspension front and rear, brake lines, brake pressure hoses, fuel lines (optional)

In my 2.0DTi Astra I found it didn't like 5W30 - it drank it. Ran fine on 10W40. I also found any longer than 10k the oil was totally knackered, so I can't imagine what yours is like after 23k.

I used Fuchs SynDiesel 10W40 fully synthetic (also sold as Silkolene TurboleneDX)

Hmm, I just been to the local autmotive place and got some 5W30 as that was what was recommended. I'll see how it goes, I imagine this is what is in at the moment.

Depends on what year the Astra is
    Up to 2004 : 10w40
    2004 on : 5w30

I've always advocated changing the oil in a diesel at half the interval of a petrol
If you think 23K miles is bad in a Vectra on ECO Service, what do you think mine will be like at 30K miles on ECO Flex!

Not many 2004 2.0DTi Astras though, most were 1.7CDTi by then. My 52-plater was one of the last 2.0DTi (had the stupid half-CANBUS Vectra engine with all the extra sensors and the unmappable ECU).

5W30 may be fine, I was just letting you know my experiences on a low miles engine.

Diesel engine and low miles, but how low is low!
Anything under 20K miles a year on a diesel is low
Anything under 15K miles a year on a diesel is ridiculously low and the owner may as well have a petrol

On the plus side, low mileage diesel cars hold their value better, as there is likely to be more life left in them
I tend to be of the opinion that a petrol car will last between 70K and 100K miles, and for a diesel between 120K and 150K miles
After that repair bills outweigh the running costs
