Default Full Load, Deep Grind sound when braking?

    Got a 2.2 Dti 2002 90K,

On new years day driving my family around, about 70Kg x 5 people.

I noticed some deep grinding sound at the front of the car when coming to a stop or doing a bit of heavy breaking.

Driving on my own, it still happens but its very faint unless i brake quite hard.

Having checked the brake pads, they seem fine, but looking at the paperwork, it seems that only the rear brake discs and pads have been replaced.

What do you think it could be? I was thinking of changing the front brake discs and pads? as I dont have any other squeeking, grinding or knocking sounds going over humps etc.

I reckon that it could be your front disc rotors, particularly given that your pads seem fine.

The car I had previous to my Vectra (a Holden Commodore) would do this after frequent heavy braking and with more occupants in the vehicle. Replacing the front disc rotors cured the problem. I think it was something to do with the rotors getting thin and not dissipating the heat as well as they used to.

Hi, i had this problem for a while coming from the front passenger side. spoke to loads of people about this and no one could give me a straight answer. My pads had loads of life left in them as did the disks, eventually replaced both pads and disks in between xmas and new year, done almost 1000 miles since and havent heard it at all. ( touch wood) !

90k is a lot on original disks !!!, would expect 50 - 60k max, suggest changing pads and disks for good practice anyway at that mileage, reckon it will almost certainly cure your problem. You don't say if you're DIY mechanic or not but doing the work yourself will save a packet!!!!!
