Default Irratic idle on 1.9 cdti

Sorry if ive missed something and this has been repeated before but when started from cold my 1.9 cdti smokes quite badly and idles irraticly sometimes stalling. I have already diagnosed the swirl flaps as being faulty would this be the cause? Not getting any spanners on the dash. Car seems to be fine when heated up though, could it be glow plugs? Car has only 45000 miles and ive only had it 3 weeks Thanks, Geoff

Tryed that there but made no difference. Its more like it's starting on 3 cylinders but didnt think the heater plugs would be gone already? (been looking at the forum for a while now but only joined there last month, aye you're only up the road then!)

Im got same problem. Like you say it feels like only running on 3 pots. yesterday when i was looking to see what prob could be (as if id know anyway LOL ) i unplugged air flow plug and it picked up. Turned ignition off plugged air flow back in started no prob. The smoke was like white, and was loads not just a bit.
9 month ago had new intake manifold and EGR valve fitted.
Checked connectors on injecters to see if gunged up .but wernt . Today started it and back to judder, i could see swirl arm going back and forth So does this mean i need a new swirl actuater ???

If the flaps are faulty, they may be jammed open which will upset the swirl in the cylinders giving you a dirty burn until it warms up.

I doubt the heaters will be dud, they're usually good for 100k at least.
