Default Starting problem - No power

Came out of work Monday morning (Cold) and struggled to start my normally brilliant 1.9 CDTI
    Symptoms:
Fires quickly runs for few seconds (noisy) then stalls - when running no power very slow to increase revs - once at 3000 revs there is no stopping it (Guessing its not my turbo then?) - lots of white smoke out of exhaust and also slight white smoke from around what I believe to be the manifold area when checked again today in the light
Whilst definitely not even coming close to an expert - not even I am naive enough to think leaving if for a few days will fix it - before anyone states the obvious...
Car is 04 with 153000 and FSH (last 140000 May 08) - all I could afford
Also noticed after reading through some other threads that what I think is the swirl valve rod is not located properly & just sitting on top of where it should be - Not sure whether this may even be linked but possibly not helping matters - Time to speak nicely to Mr Bank Manager methinks??
Any help / guidance would be greatly appreciated

    Default

I got same prob with mine 1.9 cdti (150) siggy already had new intake manifold and egr valve fitted 9 month ago.
Just seems lack of power upto 2500 - 3000 revs. Some times car sounds rough as well all the time if honest, but anyway sometimes press gas and dont rev at all even if foot to floor.
Read sh*t loads on here over last 2 days, picked up on wire harness for injector No 3 so went out took elec connector off expecting to find (hopein) all gunged up......but wasnt.
Really fed up by this time, as car would not even start . Anyway it started in end ticking ova like bag of spanners, still would not rev, then, i dont know why but unplugged conector of air flow mwter on air box......car would rev althou not fully and with quite a lot of white smoke.
Turned it off replugged air flow meter in started car ....everything ok....well running with lack of power still under 3000 revs but it running.
So back to where i was 9 month ago.

    Right - I've stopped pretending I have a 2.0 or 2.2!
Correct link for 1.9CDTI I found was:
    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...ight=EGR+Valve
Stripped out - absolutely caked in carbon - cleaned up (Including the hole it fits onto - caked too)and reassembled without drilling as solenoid movement seemed free and quite positive
Very little difference in revving and still not having the power to pull away on flat or reverse up my very slightly inclined drive - Though after testing the smoke is nowhere near as bad and no smoke coming from the area around the valve anymore
TBH - I reassembled with existing gaskets - now not sure whether it is down to me not carrying out the drilling / not using new gaskets or something else
Going back out to strip fully this time incl drilling..........
Have tried the air flow meter tip too - also to no avail I'm afraid

Top tip: If you think the solenoid feels free or looks OK......drill as per pics, strip and clean it anyway
DONT do what I did(or didn't do!)............as per previous comment
Thought I was being clever and ended up being a NUMPTY
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS (RTFM) as per the
'how to clean z19 egr valve (proper method)' link
like I have just done for the second time and you should hopefully have what feels like a new car!!!
All I can say is OH.....MY...............GAAAAAWD - what a difference
I had to keep my foot on the brake to keep it from driving ITSELF up the road!!!!!
Thank you so so much to jon7278 for the info
Total cost by the way: £3.98 plus two hours of my time
(Time would have been less if I had not had to strip it out/down TWICE)

    PS
Ensure you get BOTH new gaskets not just the square one
(Glad I said both when the guy at the stealers asked - and for the sake of just over £1 - when the pipe is off anyway)

Reading through your first thread i was thinking swirl valve, my signum 1.9cdti (150) is currently sat on driveway in middle of me fitting brand new inlet manifold as my car had lack of power under 2000rpm until turbo kicks in and she flies! looked down the glowplug area and found the swirl valve rod has come off, after reading on here i found it must be inlet manifold,

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...ght=glow+plugs

£500 later iv stripped the manifold out myself and today only just finished putting it back in, tomorrow il be put new timing belt on and finish off the job fingers crossed it will be working as new (will aslo follow how to clean z19 erg valve (proper method) as you listed)

    will let know the results
