    Default Online Insurance Quotes

When recently scouting for new Insurance, I used confused.com and was surprised to see that if you enter that your car has mods, a huge list shows with lots of common mods ie lowered by <30mm, bodykits, brake upgrades etc.

At the time our car was standard so I didn't get to use this section. I'm wondering if anyone out there have tried using the online brokers with mods and if so, what the price has been like?

Obviously, once the initial quote comes through you'd probably need to phone the company to make sure the mods advised were correct on the policy. But I wonder how low the cost actually is and how many insurers would subscribe to insuring modified cars online.

    Your thoughts please......

I think it all depends on the mods. Most of the stuff like brake upgrades, alarms, and security film etc will likely bring the price down, but performance things such as lowered, exhausts, filters, remaps etc will bring the price up.

The same goes for bodykits, and ICE, it'll bump up the policy, as it's deemed more likely to be broken into, or stolen.

What I used to do on my Corsa was to say I had mods, get the insurance price, write down as much as I could for mods on the quote, then call them up, and confirm everything that's done, and get another price. Usually it was the same, so it's usually fine.

Specific car insurers for mods are usually a must. Adrian Flux, and Chris Knott use 'Highway', so they're worth a try. They were cheapest for me. I went through Chris Knott, but going to Highway themselves will probably be cheaper.

I did exactly this in Nov when the insurance on my vec was up.I changed mine in sept from a 55 1.8 SXI to a 58 SRi 150 with VXR style pack (spoilers, sills etc) and Plus pack (Snowflakes and DAB).
Esure asked £325 for renewal,Admiral £265 through GoCompare with all mods declaired.

I did phone them up to check that the quote was genuine and the said as the mods were factory fit the quote was right. It does no harm to shop around, plus telling the insurance of mods is proberbly better incase something happens and you need to make a claim!!

    Guess who got the buisness!!!.
