2002 Vectra C 2.2Dti Spanner Light Help

Engine Type Y22DTR 90K Miles.

When I start the car in the morning the Spanner light comes on (which is normal I believe) then goes off when I rev it a few times stationary.

However sometimes when im driving and I come to a stop, the spanner light comes on.
If I rev it a little to 2K and then let it idle back down (about 500) it sometimes turns off. About 5-10secs later the light comes on again.

This happens only sometimes which is confusing me. Sometimes it wont come on for a week. Sometimes it comes on everytime it idles.

I did some testing and the light only comes on when the car is idle at 500 or 600. it sometimes goes up to 600 then back down to 500 but not often, probably when its cold and I first start the car.

If I come to a stop but keep the revs in above 600, the car runs fine.

I serviced the car (oil, oil and pollen filter) but did not change the fuel filter yet as I did not have tools to bleed it. Could it be the fuel filter/pump etc.?
I also tried to disconnect the batt for about 2 hours, it resetted the windows etc. but the light came on again.


I haven't had a chance to get the car Tech2'd but if anyone could give me an idea of what the probem may be I will be extremely grateful.

i would start with the glow plugs and see if any are faulty

spanner light coming on at idle only could be low vacuum from the pump. As your revs increase the vacuum then builds.. needs for the codes to be read really mate. Whereabouts in London are ya, think i've asked before?

I Live in North london, tottenham / woodgreen area.
If it is the probems u mention, roughy how do I resolve this and at what cost?

Don't think that is normal mine don't come on at all when i start mine i get nothing in my little window

Might be different on yours as mines a Y20DTH

It says so in the manual lol, something about if it comes on and turns off it is normal, or possiby a previous probem was registered and then fixed. (but not cleared?) im not so sure.

Yes if the spanner comes on it means its logged a code and either the faults gone now or still present but not so bad a fault as to keep the spanner on. Lemme know,

Yeah sure mate that would be great!!! I didnt really want to spend however much vauxhall charges to find a problem, fix it and then the light comes on again having to pay more if you know what i mean.
I'm a bit low on cash until the 5th when I get paid. So I wont be abe to do any repairs until then. Probably invest in a code reader myself later on.

Big thanks to plasma today for helping me and reading/erasing my codes!
Diagnosed z Faulty Glow Plug and some other minor faults
Spanner light hasnt come on this week when idle, no codes were found so i dnt know what it was.
Replaced it today and thought i'll give it a full service too!
