    Eek Polo on Fire !! Autospark Help!!!

    Out on the pi55 the last night so left the siggy at a mates house.
    Driving to collect it in the other halfs wee vw polo,next thing smelt burning plastic looked down and smoke started belching from under the steering wheel were the fuse box is!!
    I pulled over ignition of popped the bonnet no engine smoke at all.
    started the car and drove it the small distance back to my house and no smoke and everything electrical working
    Anybody any ideas its a 1997 polo 1.4 auto with only 44k on the clock just passed mot.
    The other half wants me to buy here a beetle now

    any water managed to get in to the fuse box? ex wifes Scirrocco had this problem, seems common on VW, water would short across the terminals and throw out loads of smelly black black smoke

    yea that sounds the same guyver what was ur solution do u remember.going to have a good look in the morning but can't see any damage and everything works?

    removed all fuses, dried them all, dried the fuse box as best as i could, and if i remember right, the water was coming through a leaky seal around the window, i put plenty of mastic around the trim

    done as guyver said today had the fuse box out,not much sign of water tho also no sign at all of any burnt wires?just a bit dusty.put everything back together and drove about today no problem,with everything working?

    check for leaves at the front where the heater is. Make sure it is clear.
