Default Does anyone Blank Front of Radiator off During Cold Spell

While out shopping, my wife asked me today, how come I never blank off the front of my radiator these days to help the engine warm up faster, and maintain better temps during the current cold spells.

I used to do this years ago, and one would frequently see vehicles with bits of cardboard etc. stuffed across the front of the car or behind the grill.

Does anyone still do this these days.?

Do you think its still worth doing ?

I never bother to blank off the radiator any more. I don,t think it is necessary any more.

Haven't seen that in this country since I was I started junior school in the 70's. Still see it in Canada though....where the temperature easilly reaches -25C in the daytime.

With the present ambient temperatures I can go 15 miles in my car before the temperature gauge registers at all. With the climate control it will not turn the blowers on in the car until probably 5 - 7 miles into the journey. The car is garaged overnight but it still takes ages for the warm air to come through. Thankfully the electric heated seats take the edge off.

    Interesting thread.

    Regards

I still see a large number black taxi owners /drivers doing this
I personally wouldn't do this to any of my own cars, with air conditioning, as I use the air conditioning all year round, and in most cars the air conditioning radiator sits directly behind the engine radiator
