Burning plastic smell

Hi all, I have vectra V6 cdti sri which is only a few months old now. Three times now, after a 40 mile drive home from Aberdeen to my house, when I come home I park the car up in the garage and get a very strong burning plastic smell. The road I take home is an A road and then changes to a B road for the last 4 miles. I am not driving the car hard, 60 on A road, probably 50 on B road. I have looked underneath and don't see anything, it seems to be coming from the rear possibly nearer off side.
Does anyone know or have this problem?

I had this a while back, turned out to be a plastic bag stuck to the exhaust, but if you have checked underneath ??

Thanks for the link. What I read in the link seems to be similar to my problems. I will go to dealer and ask if they know of this or any other explanation. My car has only done 3400 miles and this has happened 3 times.

When my last car was new 56plate 1.9cdti it used to give of a burning smell that came into th car through the heater vents.

You could also smell it from outside. Turned out to be grease's oils and lubes used at the factory took about 2500 miles for it to go away/burn off.

I think its common.

Could be coatings burning off as its new, also as said could be the DPF on regen.

Mine has a DPF and during a cycle it smells like burning plastic, mine cycles every 700 miles ! you really need to keep driving when its active, my mpg drops to about 20mpg instead of in the mid 40's during the regen !

hey guys this has just started to happen to me also its a very very strong smell indeed i get in the car at 5am in the morning start it up get back out to scrap the windows and bang its like a wall of burning plastic its realy starting to get on my %^&$^ any ideas or should i just phone the dealers coz iv only had the car 3 weeks

P.S the car had 24000 on the clock when i bought it iv now done about 800

what is this DPF (diesel particulate filter)?? and where is it located on the car? what does it do?? how do i know if mine even HAS one!! lol
