Thread: HELP! My Vectra 2.00DTI just STOPPED!

    confused HELP! My Vectra 2.00DTI just STOPPED!

    Last week My 1997 Vectra DTI diesel estate just stopped and I had to be towed home.

    Got no car now so I hope someone can help me

    Was running alright all day stopped and started 3 - 4 times no problem and it was running very well as usual purring along

    I just went into town parked up and went to the post office to post my cristmas cards - - came back to the car and for the first time ever it would not start! All the ignition lights came on as usual the starter motor turned it over at a fast speed and the engine was still warm but it did not even try to start!

    Took the cowl off the steering wheel and below the key slot is a thin black box with Tried unplugging and plugging in the imobiliser

    The engine fault light has been on for years

    Engine fault light not flashing so it cant be the immobilser - or can it?
    Had a spare key which worked before - tried that - no different
    Replaced the fuel Spill lines as they were cracked
    Took the battery off for a couple of hours whilst I re charged it - zeroed everything down no effect
    Replaced the crank sensor with a new one - noted that this brought back the glow plug lights which did not show after the fault


    Still just cranks over but does not even try to start


    Please.... Please has anyone any ideas?

    Any help appreciated - am at my witts end

    Not lost the transponder chip out of the key have you , very small black thing

    sorry i can't help.. (not very mecahical) sure someone will be able to though.. but if not www.vectrasport.com is more focussed on the vectra b.. although the dti engine wouldn't have really change on the C i would suspect..

    very very likly its the fuel pump almost cirtain
    if it is, its not cheap or easy to sort

    If it is the ful pump should be easy to diagnose, if its quiet turn the key to last position, you shoud here pump turn over, if you don't then there's your problem??
    As said, not cheap do either.

    Thanks guys

    Thought it was the pump myself but last night as the battery had been on charge for quite a while, just for the hell of it I thought I would crank it till the battery ran down and it coughed and started

    Turned out it was the crank sensor after all but as I had changed the spill lines as well there must have been more air in the system than I thought
