Default fuel economy and trip computer

i know this is a regular topic regarding the fuel economy on my car,and some others on here with the 1.9cdti,i haveagain filled up which i do seem to be doing a lot on this car,i have never known a diesel with a small engine be so expensive to run,to give you an idea of the fuel economy i have done 100.1 miles 90% urban driving doing stop starting and 30-40mph roads with not too much start starting,i have not driven the car hard except for one time and that was just to get in front of a car.

    computer says 33.3mpg,actual 30.7 mpg
    computer says 3.0 gallons used,actual 3.26 gallons

so at the moment i cannot think of any reason why this car is crap on fuel economy, there are no warning lights,no excessive smoking except when cold there is some smoke,no leaks at all, tyre pressures at the correct level

I think you need to prove your car is economical before assuming it isn't. I would fill the car and drive it on motorway for a long run, say 150 miles or so, have a day out. Drive it at motorway speeds and fill up when you have covered a good distance the check the mpg. I drove to Exmouth from Preston, lancs in my 120 cdti fully loaded at motorway speeds with cruise on. Did 270 ish miles, very little stoppages, and averaged a nats over 50 mpg. when knocking about town it drops dramatically to around 40 mpg in what I would call 'extra urban' motoring. If you can prove you can get around 50 mpg on a motorway run then there's not much wrong with your car, your mpg is purely suffering due to the type of runs you do.

How did you calculate the fuel used?
The computer takes the direct measurement through the fuel pump

If you are using direct consumption, then you need to wait until you have used up about five complete tanks of fuel, also you really need to operate fill to fill to be more accruate

On the motorway... staying at 70 with cruise.. i'll get about 58-63mpg.

I have the 1.9 120 and had initial problems witht he computer set to US gallons.

I have sorted this and have found that with runs to and from work 13 miles each way I get about 46-49MPG fill to fill not readings from Computer which can be asmuch as 4-5 mpg out. Motorway runs nearer 50-53 keeping to the speeds.

The lowest reading were on the fronty morning when the car was stationary running while clearing windows.

As prevuiously stated 3.0cdti big lump for local runs.
