Default 3 points and £60 fixed penalty for minor shunts. New government idea.

Whats your opinion of the governments latest idea to raise yet more money from motorists.

Drivers who are resonsible for just a minor shunt/accident are to be given 3 points on the their licence and a £60 fixed penalty.

    Story here in the Mail.

But the innoccent party may wish do so? especially if they think police would respond.

Also, where in the past most police AFAIK were only concerned when someone was injured, are they now saying under this fantastic new idea that they would be prepared to attend every minor shunt. Obviously they would pretty much need to do this if this stupid plan is to work, may also increase the number of drivers who would simply drive off, and not hang around for them to arrive.

I wouldn't worry. It's not even been mentioned at work and we certainly don't have the resources to attend every minor RTC.

A lot of the story is journalistic spin. What is on the cards is that we may be given the option of offering a FPN for due care, rather than sending every case to court.

It's in the Mail, it must be true...

Along with the story that if people disclose that they drink alcohol, that the insurance premium will go up
Discounts should be given to those that don't drink then!

As a Controller in the West Mids, I WON'T be sending people to the most minor of RTC's (Unless insurance details are being refused)

And the Government wonder why ppl say to us "Why Don't you go catch some real Criminals"

It'd be great if this included carpark (doors and poor driving) damage caught on CCTV.
