Default New Exhaust System or part replacement

    Hi guys,

I have a '52 plate 3.2 V6 GSI. I have had problems with my exhaust for a few weeks now, finally I went to the garage to be told that the flexihose on the front pipe has rusted away, and that the Cat is finished aswell. I have been quoted between £650 and £700 for the parts. I was told that they have to come direct from Vauxhall, I live in shropshire, not sure if your able to get them aftermarket else where.

    I have a few questions: -

    1. Is this a fair estimate in your opinions?
    2. Should I get it sorted or sell the car?
    3. How much would a full sports system including front pipe and Cat back to dual outlets set me back? (round about figure)

    Thanks

I would be suprised if you can not get a pattern exhaust, have you tried searching the internet.

Pattern exhaust aren't available for the Vecs AFAIA. A Cat back system will be about £300-400MAX depending where you go, not sure about the front/down pipe

    Online Automotive do the backboxes:

    GM476C-OL Rear Silencer £44.98
    GM477B-OL Rear Silencer £44.98
    GMR71-OL Rubber Mount £0.69
    SYA9-OL Clamp £1.80

    Thats £100

    Cat was £210
Couldn't find the downpipe or centrebox on the site though

Or simply remove the cat and get a new flexy joint put in. I had this done at MIJ Walsall (supplier on the forum) for £140 all in. Car drives much better without cat and emissions are as good as before the cat was there.

EDIT - Full cat back system in stainless from MIJ is less than £400 and they're only just off J10 of the M6 so on your doorstep really. Speak to Maz or Jay at MIJ http://www.mijperformance.com/

On the subject of the back boxes http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/search_results.php?, I'd want to be sure these are the exact ones for the GSi (with oval tail pipes) as they're £400 each from VX and it's almost impossible to get GSi pattern silencers. Hence the reason why so many GSi owners go down the route of MIJ, Powerflow systems or Magnex back boxes (which need chopping to fit IIRC).

    Here you go
    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59699 and http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63932

A lot cheaper than £700 for parts and then labour on top of this.

Thanks for the quick responses guys,

I am awaiting a quote from MIJ, I may go for the CAT removal, and get them to repair the flexi joints on the front pipe while im there.

Is this the problem you had also gtr1000? (flexi joints on front pipe)

That will probably be stage 1.
Stage 2 will be full cat back system (prob wait a month or so until christmas brokeness subsides).

Will let you guys know how I get on.
