Question Veccy C Aux Heating Timer & Remote Turn On Info ?

Guys, page 177... says you can get a remote for the heating system... I guess so you can warm up the car before you get in on cold mornings.

Does any one know a) What compatiblty there is with the Veccys for this... I'm getting the GSI C soon so I am hoping it is.

    b) Where to get one and how much, what part number ? ( I wonder if LMF can get em )

    c) Any one got one... what they like ?

    Pages here from owners manual

I've edited your post to avoid folks downloading a 4.5Mb PDF. I've tweaked it so that it's just the two relevant pages to your post.

In reply to your question, if you look at page 176 you'll see that the remote control is to control the Auxiliary Heating/Ventilation feature. The car will had to have had this fitted as a factory optional extra by someone - it's not standard on any models.

Look at the first diagram on page 176 - you'll see the extra menu at the bottom of the information screen - Auxiliary Heatimg.

But your question has got me wondering!! Is it just a Tech 2 reprogram to get that menu up and let you have that extra feature - or is it a bit more than that? i.e. extra components?

It's obviously linked into the Climate Control as it will heat or cool to the desired temperature, which makes me wonder if it is just a Tech2 reprogram as it would seem all the components that do the work are in place!!

Time for a bit of research methinks!!

No clicky link for me either Paul.

If this is able to be retro-fitted I'm very interested. Would be great for winter mornings when you can set a timer to start heating the car and for hot days when you can start up the A/C from the remote to cool down the car before you get there.

Thinking about it, I wonder if there are going to be other components to add. Obviously the standard heating gets it's heat from the engine. This would need to get the heat from somewhere else as the engine will be cold in the morning for example. I suspect there's an additional auxiliary heater that uses petrol to generate the heat? That's what they used on some VW (vans) in the past (if not still)!

Your link would hopefully answer all these questions!?

Got it Paul. This link should work. Some of the English is a bit 'pidgeon' but understandable. For some reason the latter stages are still in German. Cutting and pasting into BabelFish/Google translate will sort that.
