Question 2.2 Direct SRi - Spanner & Emission Lights

    Hi all,

First post on here and hoping for some help.

My 04 plate 2.2 SRi Direct has been brilliant in the last 3 years with no issues at all. However, yesterday I was stuck in traffic for about 20 minutes and all of a sudden the Spanner light came on and the car went in to limp home mode. I stopped and restarted the car and the Spanner light showed briefly and then went off but the Emission light came on and has stayed on permanently.

I then arrived at my destination and parked the car, returning to it about 2 hours later. I found that if I tried to pull off, there was almost no power at all but on stopping and restarting the engine, I regained power but the idle was very erratic and power seemed to come and go throughout a range of revs.

This morning, I took the car to my local dealership who can't even look at it until Monday 28/12/08?

I had no choice but to use the car today for a few short journeys and every time I used it I found different results. Sometimes spanner light comes on and stays on, sometimes comes on and goes off, sometimes doesn't show at all.

Sometimes no power in low revs, sometimes no power with high revs, sometimes seems OK?

I really am confused by all this. I am not a mechanic but until I bought the Veccy I have always done minor work myself.

I have read a lot on the forums about Swirl Valves and EGR valves but all of these seem to relate to the 1.9CDTi Vectra.

Can anyone give me any advice, specific to the 2.2 Direct SRi?

I know I really need to get it in for diagnostic check but just wondering what sort of bill I am going to be looking at and whether there is anything I can do myself to sort the problem. (might get me out of going to the in-laws on Boxing day - lol)

    Thanks in anticipation.

Both myself (once) & my dad (twice) have had pressure regulators go wrong now causing spanner light but nothing noticeable driving the car. Both 06 vectra 2.2 directs.

    Default Thanks guys

Very useful information, don't know how I missed it when I searched.

Looks like the Fuel Pump / Regulator then and a decent chunk of money. I will be contacting Watchdog as it looks like VX have known about this for a long while and should have issued a recall.

I won't be holding my breath for a 'contribution' from VX though.

    Once again, thanks for responding

My fuel pump etc went last year on christmas day and took just over a month to get sorted to my satisfaction. Lucky for me the garage I bought the car from provided an excellent warranty. So cost to me was having to drive a Honda Jazz for a month.

    Just to close this off.

Car went in for diagnostic on Monday - problem was, as suggested, the High Pressure Fuel Pump. Cost £490.36

I was initially told that the car may not be fixed this week due to the holiday season and parts departments working short hours. This was not good news as I fly out of Heathrow on Saturday for 3 weeks holiday and needed my car as we would struggle to get me, the wife and luggage into her little Tigra!

Lady at the service reception at Pentagon Burton on Trent said she would try her best.

Absolutely brilliant result is that I picked my car up today, all done and it is like driving a new motor. Responsive or what!

Anyway, problem solved, a bit expensive but good service from the staff at Burton Pentagon.

Thanks to all who have replied and given advice or information

Did you get to keep the old 'knackered' pump?

If watchdog pursue this problem, you may even be able to claim some money back off Vauxhall.

P.S - glad to hear that it was sorted so quickly - some of us had to wait months!

    Hi Calamity,

TBH I forgot to ask for the old pump (DOH!)

I was just so relieved that it was fixed in time for the Holiday, I suppose.

Keep me informed of the Watchdog situation - I will happily contribute if required.

    Cheers.

Unbelievable!!!! My Spanner light came on this morning, and the car cut out in the middle of rush hour!

Exact same symptoms as before (2 months ago when my Fuel Pump and Regulator went). The AA came out and suspected that it's the Fuel Pump (again!) - although no fault code appeared on their diagnostics.

He towed me to the nearest Vx garage, who may not even be able to look at the car this week!!
Because the garage haven't diagnosed a fault yet, I'm without a courtesy car (under Network Q).

Assuming that it is the Pump/Regulator, then it's a bl**dy disgrace - I was promised that the Fuel Pump which they fitted only 2 months ago was from the 'new batch', and would not go wrong!

Default Vauxhall vectra c sri 2.2 direct 2005 chuggs along

Hi i have a vauxhall vectra c sri direct 2005. I had problems about 8 months ago, spanner light came on car cut out and would not start, had to spray de icer on pressure regulator to cool it down so i could get home. GREAT. Thankfully vauxhall fixed this free of charge as it was on recall.

Great until recently 28/05/2011 was accelerating in second gear and car seemed like it misfired as if it wheel span and the power cut for a split second and then carried on fine, then i noticed it more and more didn't matter what gear i was in, fifth gear cruising same again power went for split second but no spanner light at this point. It felt to me like there was no petrol for that split second.
Then suddenly spanner light came on then the emissions light came on (one that looks like and engine) completely baffled, but this has only happened twice each time going off and staying off when i turn the ignition on and off again.
Have tried last couple of days turning engine on and off sometimes spanner comes on sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't come on i have a go at driving to see what it is like, but when i accelerate it chuggs along, it does accelerate but feels like it is struggling to get petrol thorugh.
Is this the problem, the fuel pump, i have heard there have been loads of problems with this model and the fuel pump and regulator. Will vauxhall do the pump free of charge.

    Any help anyone!!!
