Default can anyone help - problem with battery and warrenty

    hi,

my battery seems to be leaking and needs replacing, there was all blue crystal like substance on the battery don't really know what could have caused this.

the Vec is a 1.8 sri on a 57 plate.

took it into vauxhall and they are saying that the warranty is void as the garage I bought the car from was not a vauxhall dealership and therefore when they serviced the car after it was 11 months old that they invalidated the warranty?

can anyone help please what could have voided the warranty? and are there any ways round this?

    thanks

Hmm I did not think that would matter to be honest as you should still have a standard 3 year warranty. some one will know more.

Were about in liverpool you from?

Total rubbish. Tell them to wind their neck in and give you a new battery before you call trading standards.

What is the warranty on batteries? If it's 3 years / 60 K miles, then as ZS says, tell them you will call trading standards. Did the servicing garage use genuine VX parts to the schedule and are they VAT registered? If so, then EU block exemption would make it ILLEGAL for this dealer to refuse warranty.

I don't know if the battery has the 3 year warranty, but I think it may have.
Batteries SHOULD last more than it has.

Is the battery actually defective? Have you had it tested? If you washed off the crystals with plenty of water, would they come back? Is there any physical damage to battery?

Does the battery need toppping up? Or is it sealed? Does it actually work OK? Ie crank the engine easily?

yer battery working fine no battery light on don't know if it's chargin though cause don't know how to test this. there is no physical damage to the battery and i haven't tried wiping the blue stuff off cause didn't know what it was.

the company i used are vat registered,
from the service details the original garage sent me the checked all the usual and only replaced air filter and oil change by the looks of it.

I don't know if they used vx parts but the parts they changed would not effect the battery anyway?

I sent the details of what the garage gave me over to vx and they said that it does not state the milage or date these where carried out but the service book is stamped with date and milage and vx are refusing to accept this stamp???

I don't know how else to prove anything to me think they want blood out of a stone if you ask me

Just mention block exemption laws and see what happens.

The blue is probably just copper sulphate, caused by low electrolyte in all probability. I would remove the cell caps and check if they need topping up.

in order to keep your cars warranty, the car must be serviced according to vx predescriptions: performe the needed service on time, use original parts, perform all nesseceray checking/adjusting operations during the scheduled service. Stamp from an independant workshop means nothing unless you have the invoice along with a checklist to back it up. The invoice must contain:
VIN of the car or registration plate number
    date of repair
mileage of the car on that day
part numbers (vx numbers) that were replaced
oil grade (5w30, 0w30 etc.) + oil brand. VX insists on using Longlife oil.
a checklist of the works that were performed during the service.

If you have the invoice and checklist then I dont think any dealer will refuse of your warranty request.
