    Default Auto Gear Box leaking

Jacked the car up this morning to start changing the bushes and noticed loads of red oil all over the underside of the car, looked as if it was leaking from hoses coming from gear box. Very quickly put wheel back on and took car to Local Perry's dealers for them to look at.

Got told have very large Transmission fluid leek not to drive car can leave with them until tomorrow when they could look at what is causing the leek and hopefully fix it in time for Christmas.

Warranty expired on 2/12/2008 so am I going to get a big bill? do I need a new gear box, had no warning signs saying low pressure.

If it still drives ok, then it looks like you'll be lucky and have caught it in time.
If it has been run dry or overheated, then internal damage is likely, but it doesn't sound like it got this far.
It may be something as simple as a split pipe or leaky connection.
Assuming this box is like others I know, the fluid is pumped from the box to the oil cooler under a fair amount of pressure, so even a tiny leak, will actually look quite bad, especially as it has been driven like this, the air passing under the car will have spread the oil everywhere making it look even worse.
All you can do, or they can do, is clean it up and see where it is coming from.

If it's not good news, as in needing new box/major work then I'd get onto Vx and see if they'll contribute). Given the climate I've heard that they're less ready to do this at the moment i.e. warranty expired means no help from them, but no harm in asking.

If your mileage is low then more chance of them helping.

Yep, that's a good 20k under the warranty limit, so definitely worth a shot talking to Vx given that you're only a three weeks out of warranty.

Finally Got my car back today after its been with the Dealers since 22nd December, it's had the inlet and out let pipes replaced for the Automatic transmission, new oil in the Gearbox and the oil cooler has been replaced, thankfully covered by third party warranty (warranty Direct)my lovely girlfriend had got me as a Christmas Prissie all I had to do was pay the £50 excess not the couple of hundred pound bill I was initially expecting.

Well lets just say car changes gear a lot better than it was before, also put BSR remap back on and all I can say is WOW its a lot better than it was before.

Look forward to nice drive up A19 to see everyone going to the meet and giving the car a proper run out.
