You may have some redress through the sales of goods act, as any parts should last a reasonable amount of time, and you could reasonably expect the head to last longer than it has (and up to 6 years from original manufacture) BUT I really doubt you will actually get anywhere by it. May be worth a try, but I don't think it would be easy.

My 2.2 head cracked, got it sorted under warranty. Mine went above the zorst ports, pumped oil all over zorst and bell housing. Its not cheap mate, second hand 2.2 heads are sort after due to the common snapped chain. What colour is your antifreeze? Your should only use Red in the Ally lumps, I've seen a couple of 2.2 heads ferked because guys have used blue. I believe the heads are inherently weaker because they are foam cast rather than sand cast but nothing for VX to pay out over.

EDIT: Just looked at my dealer history print out, and if I had to pay it would have been £1386+vat for new head fitted, that was on a 26k lump.

They are still sand cast, just with a foam 'head' insert that burns off when hot metal is poured (and the metal takes the shape of the foam insert). Foam casting isn't as good as other methods for dimensional accuracy or mechanical strength, BUT is quicker, easier and therefore cheaper
