    Seen them on a police program the other night they stopped a bmw with them on, they could of to the car off him but they just fined him. not allowed on a car built after 1973 i think that was the year they quoted.

    Show plates are fine mate, otherwise it's an offence to drive on a public road or highway as they are not to the current EU/UK Regulations which have been in place since 2001.

    This basicly means If you do drive on a Public Road or highway to which the public have access by payment or otherwise, expect a traffic Officer to pull you, give you a HO/RT1 Form (Producer for your Docs) and a VDRS (Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme) which may require your vehicle having to pass a further MOT to state the vehicle is now roadworthy with the correct Plates fitted.

    Or they could just issue you with a £30 fine, and a HO/RT1, after I think its the third reg plate Offence, DVLA get informed and your Reg gets withdrawn, but thats usually if your reg is trying to look like a name and the letters or numbers have been changed to look like something else, like 4's with a little extra length and slope to look like an 'A' and 1 & 3 illegally spaced too close together too look like a B.

    Bit of a pet hate of mine, I'll be honest, hate fancy Itallic pretend foreign plates.

    Rant Over. Stick to normal plates for driving, Show for if its not moving LOL.

    If the vehicle is say an original 1972 Mini with pressed plates, (black background with silver letters) you can still put new pressed plates on it, but if it was a 1974 mini, you'd have to put standard font plates on it. Bored anyone yet?? I'm Sure MLC will correct me if I'm wrong, it has been known for me to get things a little wrong, but not by much.

    Cracking advice except for the VDR bit..... there is no provision in the VDR scheme for numberplates, its either a warning or a fixed penalty fine.

    Not been on here for ages, looking at a new veccy so came back for a good read, anyways;

    I have quite competently issued VDRS for number plates on many occasions in the past, never been pulled up on it. I know the whole system about informing the DVLA and issuing Conditional Offers but we are actively encourages to use or discretion and a VDRS does the job.

    I acknowledge it does vary by force though and depends on who stops you.

    (got me thinking though so off to check up on it, but as I say, we've never been pulled up for it)
