Whilst, as yet mine is working ok. I was talking to a mate who had to replace a thermostat on a Ford Focus, he said how difficult it was?? I was wondering where the thermostat was on my 3.2 V6 ?? Any ideas 3.2 driver,s.

Hi
Just saw this thread and thought I would ask... I;ve noticed that my temperature gauage needle has been playing up it seems to come to life when im stuck in traffic, and somtimes even then it only barely moves,, the odd time it works fine, somtimes it doesnt move at all could it be the themostat? or the gauge? if the thermostat is sticking could that cause it?
Cheers
Pete
Must be a 1.8 vvti you've got Pete?
If so, this is standard!
Snowman, you got your ears on?
Hi
Its a 1.8 petrol, not VVTI. how do you mean "this is standard"??
Thanks
Pete
Temp gauge's have always been cr4p on the 1.8 vvti's, i.e. they dont move unless you've been sitting in traffic for about an hour, then when you are on the move again it goes back to zero. Didn't know the non vvti's had an issue too!
Numerous owners on here have had the same issue. Mine is exactly the same. You can either live with it as i have, or I believe some have had their thermostats changed and it's made a difference and some it hasn't.

Ah right I see,,, thanks for the Info on that. I have to say that mine is an 03 1.8 and it was fine right up until about 2 months ago when I booked it in for a service at my local garage. On the service they replaced the "oil switch" on the bottom of the sump which aparently was leaking. Then got the car back and noticed that the temp gauge wasnt working so took it back to the garage and I told them "it was working when I brought the car to you" they checked it and said that its nothing they have done so,,,, kind of hit a dead end. Im convinced that its somthing they have done, bit too much of a co-incidence that it hasnt worked since that service.
Thanks for the Info anyway
Pete
The thermostats on the non vvt's is a known weak point too. Mine in my astra coupe dies at 55k and 2.5 years. Its an easy thing to do.
Just had my thermostat replaced on my 1.8vvti at 9000 miles!.
It wouldn't get up the temp for 20 miles. They have replaced it and it now starts moving after only 2 miles!
