Default Need to pick your brains

Had a few problems lately with the vec.

    1) The washer pump stopped working

    2) Having a misfire

    3) now appears that the alternator has given up the ghost.

Am wondering if the forst 2 are related to the alternator going. The washer pump stopped during the cold snap and the auto electrician thought not enough voltage was getting to it.

Is the alternator an expensive replacement. I have a 2005 05 plate 2.2 direct sri

is the washer pump not atempting to work at all?? ie can u hear it working?, if not take it off + connect it to the batt to test it , regarding the alternator some vec c's have been known to have alternator problems, go to your local dealer and get him to check to see if your's come into the serial number's that are been recalled, if so it will be replaced free of charge regarless of age. as for the missfire it could be anything but you may get a reply from a petrol head as im a oil burner my self so best of luck, if your washer pump has life in it remove the black rubber bung from where it locates and clean it, it's a filter and there well known to clog with gunk!. it's located under the front of the n/s wheel arch.

The washer pump was fine once the air temprature came back up. It is suspected that there was not enough voltage to fire it

the washer pump could be clogged up due to having to much neat screen wash in it

the miss fire could be down to the spark plug or coil pack

Thanks Glynn but the pump is fine. It didnt turn when the air temp was sub zero. Am wondering if there was no enough voltage to it due to the alternator failing.
