    Default what new car?

i am looking to change my car in the next couple of months, but am unsure what to get
i need a diesel for starters, my 1.8 design is only giving me 30ish mpg at the moment, and that is mainly at 70mph on the motorway, i work 10 miles away so i drive a mile to get onto the A13 then its 70 all the way for 9 miles till i get to work, on the way back, 9 miles then a mile at 30 in town
i will most probably be looking at 12/15k for a car, and dont know if i should get a 1.9cdti 150 sri or design, or a bmw 520/525d
at the moment the beemer is slightly ahead as it seems there is more legroom in the back (my 2 kids are growing too fast)
just wondered what you guys would suggest, or think of any other alternatives

No Brainer for me the 525d in M Sport spec would be my choice.

Or what about A4 3.0 TDi in S-line spec

Remember a diesel costs more to buy, and doing such little mileage while cold the diesel engine will not be at it's most efficient anyway so you won't get a massive return with it. I'd chose a car you enjoy driving and love the look of tbh!

No room in the rear of the A4.
If there had been, i'd have never bought a Vectra.
Having said that, i'm seriously considering an RS4 in a couple of years time, but it'll have to be about 3 years old. Can't run to one newer than that..!

maybe you need to adjust your driving style? even if you don't go very fast, maybe you're a bit heavy footed? i would expect more from a 1.8 for the use you describe. my 2.2 direct averages 37.1 [according to the display] over a mixed 20 mile route, and i don't drive excessively slow [or fast]. but if you're pressing me for suggestions, how about a Passat? more low key than an Audi, and not much different, but a BMW, purleeeeze......i loathe and detest everthing about BMWs...
