    Default 2 cars, one trailer

If I fitted a towbar to the wife's car, do I need to change number plates on the trailer to her number if I tow it with her car?

I was under the impression that as long as BOTH cars are registered to the same address, I don't have to constantly change number plates on the trailer depending which car I towed it with. Is this correct???

You need to display the towing vehicle registration number on the trailer mate.

common sense m8. trailer must display the plate as the towing vehicle, 3 points off a keen copper for them being different.

in europe most countries have trailers registered as a separate vehicle to the one towing it, thats why they have different plates, in the uk though the trailer HAS to display the number plate of the vehicle towing it, or as said before 3 points and a fine

If you want a cheap way of getting a number plate made up, get an old plate from a scrap yard, there usually free, get yellow reflective tape off Ebay, bout a £1, then buy sticky letters and numbers, ahouls cost no more than about £6/7, much cheaper than getting one made, and you can peel the letters off, and replace if you ever change a car

You must have only one set of plates on a trailer at a time. I got 2 sets of plates made up yesterday for £24:00, that is 4 plates, so they are not expensive. As for fitting them how long does it take to undo 2 screws then refit the other plate? Don't be so lazy. (Should be a big grin smilie here, but I still can't get them to work).
I know a lot of people who hold their trailer plates on with Bulldog, or Crocodile clips.

a friend and I was discussing the same last week, he is a driving examiner and told me the same, so would be interesting to hear the legal stance on it. The only stumbling block I could see would be the points issue with evidence taken from a camera?
