We can't all be satisfied with different alloys, chrome door pins and a sunglasses holder in the roof. Can we?
Thought not. Right, tell all about your lairiest ideas, whether realised or pipe-dream.
Let me kick off with this:
My Viva HC Coupe (in polar white - they all were as it was a 1975 run-off batch job to use up unsold Firenza bodyshells) came with standard stuff, most Viva kit rather than Firenza.
I had planned to do a convertible transformation - lined up a roof that matched the swoopy coupe lines, and had the plans drawn up (chassis strengthening, rool-over hoop a la XR3i Convertible, swapping front grille for one from a Magnum - quad lights and SL inserts etc). Add a set of chrome and black Rostyles, it would have looked very nice. Then worked out an engine transplant (it had a 1256cc unit) would be needed to move it with anything like a decent pace, found tinworm through the subframes and firewall, so it suddenly became unviable. Sold it on without modding a panel, ended up spotting it 3yrs later in a breakers. Sad (but inevitable) day.
A little different from what the usual RS2000 'add a spoiler' crowd were planning!
Oh, and I still have a hankering for a Landrover Lightweight with TD300 engine, high-lift suspension and all the necessary to make it unstoppable. "You drive fast, I'll drive anywhere!" There's something satisfying about doing stuff old skool, greasing diffs every 4k, practising the welding skills more often than not, and learning what all those odd little knocks actually mean. Plus it'll be a good excuse to break out my dad's Whitworth spanners!
