    Default Window wiper stopped working

got a phone call from my wife as she was driving to work saying that someone had stollen one of the window wipers. hmmmmm, i said , you sure its been stollen and not still there. she checked and there it was, sitting where it should be but wasnt moving. only the drivers side was working.
any thought on why this could of happened. she wnt be home till after 4pm so i cant have a look at the car but any advice would be good.

    many thanks, Darryl

The nut holding the wiper may be loose , or the motor linkage has gone mate .
Well that's all it can be lol .
I've heard a few stories about the linkages going , so that's my favourite .

If the linkage goes, then I would say that the other wiper won't work for long. I would refrain from using the wipers as much as possible (and safe) to prolong it.

There is much on here about the linkage issue.

If its the linkage, you can do a bit of a repair on it using some wire ties. I believe that when the passenger side goes, you can hold the "ball and socket" joint on the linkage together with a wire tie as a quick fix. But you would have to remove the trim panel where the wipers are to get access. I think there is a posting somwhere on here with a how2

If the ball socket that has separated is the one nearest the off side, then you do this temp repair without removing the scuttle panel, but you do have to be a bit brave when holding it up out of the way.

i had the same problem on my 04 sri and it was the ball socket on the linkage. What i done (and this thread reminds me i did it as i forgot) was to pop 2 tie wraps round the bits of the linkage. Did that about 6 months ago and wipers have worked fine since though it should only be a temp fix.

Think there is a how to on here if i remember

well desided to get off my arse abd fix this problem.

its the passenger side thats came off the ball end of the drivers side. tryed pushing it bk on and it stayed but not for long. it jst wnt seem to click into the socket. doesnt look worn out and the ball point seems ok. so its now held together with cableties. works great now. lol.

thanks for all the help and advice peeps. i wish i had taken pics while i was doing it as i had the canera in the car.

Darryl , do what I did as a temp. measure about 4 years ago when mine went on the 52 plate . Get yourself any shopping plastic bag and make a 6 inch square , fold it over a few times then hold it over the socket thats come out . Then push the ball into the socket , the plastic bag mod will hold for quite some time .

This how 2 was posted orriginally by me on here , and has saved a few people ! As many of the older forum members will tell you .
