Default What I learnt todayon the way to work.

Was driving (relatively) happily down the M1 motorway today, had just passed J24 heading southbound when this warning light appeared on the dash.

Sorry for the poor image, but it's an icon of a radiator with 'water' at the bottom.

Anyway, couldn't stop and the car wasn't over heating and the blower was warm, so I continued to Leicester services.
Pulled in and checked the water level, then filled it up to the correct level with tap water.

So what have i learned today????

I checked the fluid level the other week by removing the expansion bottle cap. I clearly hadn't fully tightened it and therefore vapour was escaping and the level eventually went low enough to trigger the warning. I know this because when I topped it up today, the cap wasn't tight !

Heres a handy fact for you Ste.

You know the petrol gauge symbol, if the nozzle is on the right the petrol cap is on the right. If on the left, you get the idea. Saves having to open the door and having a look.

that's an urban myth. father in law's transit van has the nozzle in the right of the pump symbol but the filler cap's on the left. i used to think what you said was true because i read it somewhere, but the first time i borrowed it and went to put some diesel in i pulled up at the wrong pump.

    sorry for mucking it up.
thing is, i believed it for years, it works for most cars.

here's a true fact though, the word 'gullible' doesn't exist in most modern dictionaries, it's true, go and look it up.
