    Default Garage quote

Right, i've got a service due and i will need my 314mm big brake upgrade fitted. so i went to me mate at the garage for a quote on the service and extras.
    Service includes:
    - Oil and filter
    - Fuel filter
    - Pollen filter
    - Air filter won't need changing (K&N Panel filter installed)
    - complete check of (ball joints, bearings, track rod ends, suspension, bushes etc...)
    Extras:
    - Brake fluid (change)
    - 314mm disks and calipers (including new pads)
    - Braided hoses all round
    - Fitting new front lower grille
    - Changing front sidelights, dipped beam, main beam and fogs (for Osram nightbreakers)

I got a quote of 4 hours labour and £40 an hour. I didn't think this was too bad. What do people think?
Am i missing anything important off my service? (69,000 mile service)

    Thanks

Mate, you have to feel just a little bit embarassed getting a garage to change the pollen filter - it's easier than checking the tyre pressures.

It's only gonna take 5 mins to change it lol , so why not let the garage do it .
It's not like it's gonna cost an extra hours labour is it ?

That quote sounds good to me. Where I go, it is £50 an hour.

No one mentioned an hour's labour, but there's a downside to letting a garage think you don't like/know how to get your hands dirty - they decide you're not qualified to spot poor workmanship.

at ~70K I'd think about the cam belt, unless you've already had it done of course!

I can do everything that is on that list. (I would have trouble with the brake upgrade though) It's just far easier (this time of year with no time at the weekends) giving him all the stuff and asking him to do the lot.
My mate knows that i usually do all my own work.

I thought a cambelt change isn't due on the 1.9 CDTI's until later on Can anybody inform me of the mileage to get it changed?

    Thanks

80k or 8 years for the cam belt i think, so consider getting it done. I think some have also been quoted 100k but its personal choice really.

I'd do the pollen filter and bulbs yourself given it's £40.00 an hour. Be interested to hear how the brake upgrade performs.
