    Engine : Flux Core Capacitor

    Question Been offered an Astra

I've been thinking of buying an older car to use for going to work/fishing etc. keeping the Vec as a second car.

Guy at work has offered me an 03 plate Astra (LS model i think) with 1 months tax and 7 months mot with 33000 miles on the clock. Body and interior are mint, owned from new and used as a second car by his wife.

BUT theres a problem ! The head gasket has gone,
What do you think it'd cost if i repaired it myself, asuming the head isn't warped ?

The guy has asked for me to make him a 'reasonable' offer
What do you think i should offer. Obviously taking the repairs into consideration.

So a head gasket change wouldn't be too tricky, provided, as you say, the head isn't warped etc...

    That'll be a 1.4 88bhp. Probably a 16-valver.

It's not that much. Get the right man and £400 will do it. Common fault on those engines caused by dodgy antifreeze.

A head gasket? Made of GOLD...? Are you insane man...? How silly would that be... You'd be better off with one made of cheese....
