My 55 plate 1.9 CDTi (150) SRi with 57000 miles, started misbehaving about a week ago but the reality is a lot longer, more like a year upon reflection.
About 12 months ago the engine performance got lumpy, sort of like a loose engine mount bracket is the only way to describe it, every time I lifted the accelerator the engine would lurch, I just put it down to wear and tear!.
The car smoked when booting it off the lights, very noticeable at night in the lights of the car behind me. (Probably why I always managed to pull off faster than anybody else!, they couldn't see for the smoke! ).
The car started to sound like a massey ferguson when ticking over.
The revs used to hunt occasionally at tick over.
It just seemed less powerful and hesitant.
Then last week the power just died below 2000rpm and I couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding with this car.
The dreaded spanner light started to come on!!!
So, what did I do?, go straight to the stealers?, NO!!!
Come and visit the very good and informative Vecta-C.com again.
From here it was soon apparent that the problem was with the EGR valve and in the HOW to, the details for a replacement from AUTOVAUX (btw. I have updated the part number in the discussion thread.).
This I ordered Yesterday morning (Monday) and it arrived at work Today (Tuesday), Went for special delivery option.
Half an hour later during my lunch break and all was done, as for the old valve, talk about carbon, well I've been doing my bit for the environment by storing lots and lots of carbon inside my EGR valve!!!.
So the drive home.......
BLIMEY!!!!!!!! ITS LIKE A NEW CAR!!!!!
All the above problems have vanished and the power delivery is smooth and powerful, I had to really be careful on the slippery back lanes as the wheels just wanted to spin!!!.
So if you have the above symptoms, don't go to the stealers, just replace the valve yourself. It's dead easy.
And thank you everyone who posted on vectra-c forums describing their symptoms and what they did to cure the faults.
Also hopefully, this post might help others.
