    Default fuel gauge query...

i'm trying to determine how many miles i'm getting out of the car now that the performance box is fitted.

in order to do this i obviously want to run the tank into the red.

now...my query is whether the orange refill warning light on the dash board is connected to the fuel gauge or the trip computer, because the light normally comes on when there is 31 miles showing on the trip computer

can anyone shed some light onto this.

    thanks in advance!

Its connected to the fuel gauge ...

No need to run the tank into the red for that.
If you dont trust the trip computer and dont want to calculate
from it, theres other ways ...

Harry, i would fill up the car, run it till nearly empty, then fill up again, but make note of how many litres it takes to fill and take note of how many miles since you filed uo the first time. then you can work pretty accuretly your miles per litre, then turn that into miles per gallon.

    Exactly !!

And this way you can also check the computer ... if its mpg:s the same as you calc from this ...
But it should be pretty close ... as the computer calc from the open times of the injectors, and should be pretty accurate.

    cheers for the info guys.

it's not just the mpg that i want to check, it's how many miles i can get out of a full tank. i've only ever managed to break the 500 mile marker once since i've had the car. that was prior to fitting the performance box, i want to see if it's easier to achieve with the box on.....i doubt it though, it's just to much fun planting the right foot!!!

    thanks again for your responses.

The orange fuel light starts flashing when you're really low.
