Wink Blueboy the FNG says Hola.

    Dear All,

after many years of German cars I have had enough of things going wrong, rust, lots of expense and heavy depreciation. I have now bought a 2008 "Big Vec" 1.8 VVT Design and what a cracking car it is.

It is 8 months old, totally mint condition and cost £6999 with 16k miles which seems to be the going rate. After 5 diesel cars i have gone back to petrol for economy.

My last car was a Mercedes E320 CDi Estate and in a years motoring i spent approx £700 on servicing, £1200 on mechanical repairs and lost £3500 in depreciation. To top all that, last week it went in to the body shop and had extensive rust repairs (4 arches, bonnet, 4 doors and front o/s wing), fortunately paid for by Lord Benz and not me.

I'm now looking forward to enjoying my new car and wondering what to do with all the money i'm saving !! Ha Ha. Merry Christmas.

    Cool

Yes, your right there. But it is NOT a BMW, Audi, VW or that pile of crap MB. It certainly hasn't got the price tag of any of those makes and all the problems that go with them. I know nothing manufactured is ever going to be perfect but if you were to take a look at the MB Club forum and see the sort of problems owners are having with their cars and how the "Main Stealers" are treating them, you will see what i mean.

For £6999 you are never going to buy one of their cars with 2 years and 4 months warranty remaining.

I still can't quite get my head round it all. I thought Opel where German and Vauxhall was actually General Motors which is American? I'm sure somebody will shed the light

Not at all, Penfold 101. The 1.8 VVT does, say, 37mpg. The 1.9 150bhp diesel does, say, 47mpg. Over 10,000 miles, at todays fuel prices you save about £80 a year on fuel with the diesel model.

    BIG F*****G DEAL!! Not even £2 a week !!!

The 1.8VVT cost me £6999. The equivalent 1.9 diesel was £8799. A whole £1800 more. If i kept the car about 25 years i may get my money back???

That is not taking into account costs of servicing, ( i bet the petrol car is cheaper), or resale values ( the diesel would retain more for a guess). How much is an EGR for a CDTi, my mate has had 2 on his Astra in 18 months, luckily under warranty. Also the petrol car is dearer in road tax; £170 against £145.(?)

Do your sums before thinking that diesel is always more economical.

Oh absolutely, it's not as clear cut as mpg alone, but then again some people have found the 1.8 to get nowhere near the claimed economy, and the same with the 1.9. there's a million factors that come into it at the end of the day...

Personally I love the torque the diesel gives me - i had a 2.2 Direct for a while and I hated it with a passion...

I've simply never heard anyway say they're switching to petrol for economy...
