Lovely Diesel Smell

Hello all. I haven't posted in ages but glad to see you are all well. Before I start paying the main dealer hourly rate to fix this problem, I wondered if you could perhaps give me your views on this...

When the car is at a slow speed, I get a very strong diesel smell in the cabin, but this can be prevented by pressing the recirc button. Car is a facelift 150CDTI Signum Elite auto. Also smells a bit dieselly (?) outside the car.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? My money is on a fuel leak somewhere. Thanks for any help you can give.

sounds like a fuel leak,either fuel pump or even injector pipes,also have a look at the leak off pipes as these do perish

check your filter is tight and the waterdrain off is properly closed off

Did you manage to get this sorted? I bought a Signum Elite 150 last week on a 57 plate and get the same strong smell of diesel in the cabin at low speeds. As you say, you can also smell this outside of the cabin when first getting out of the car?

Any help much appreciated.

Er, no. Dealers incapable of even smelling it, much less fixing it

Therefore decided to trade it in (total lack of confidence in it now) and new Merc turns up Friday

I had it a couple of times today when driving down the motorway and suddenly coming to a stop in traffic, with what appears to be diesel exhaust fumes filling the cabin.

Is yours the same as this - exhaust fumes rather than raw diesel?

Yes, definately fumes at a slow speed I would say.

leaky manifold pipe, think it was bobbytupper who had this happen a few days after buying his Signum
