Hi there.
The only reason I can see for removing the ECU from the car for a remap, would be if you for some reason want to do a remap from a company that is far away and you can send them the ECU and they return it after the remap. -I think EDS (EDS-Fahrzeugtechnik) in Germany supports this if you for some reason want to not use handheld units.
Normally EDS has a unit that you by internet update by yourself and program your own car via the ODB-connector that is located under the ashtrey. -Same goes for BSR and similar.
Leave the ECU in the car, and go for a well known remap-provider!!

I've been told on good authority that its only possible to access around 75% of the ecu thru the obd port, and that full engine load settings may be the part you cannot access.. How this would affect a remap i have no idea, but i may well be looking into this myself very soon..![]()
You can access enough of it to do a full re-map though. The parts you can't access are the parameters that are not required to be accessed via tech 2.
well im after a remap and my friend had his golf done at the same place
he has done a realy good job on the golf so i spoke to the guy and he said the vectras are a right pain to do as the ecu has to be removed to do it?
i would like it doin on the car as i dont realy want to start taking bumpers off tbh

http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205Old thread but the principle/product hasn't changed.
The reason he stated that is simple, he has not got the kit to read the ECU through the OBD port. This to be honest is not a good sign.
I would say with confidence that even if he had the ECU out of the car, he would not be able to map it direct. Torquing BHP said they could do my old 3.0 but couldn't, even by removing the ECU they could not do it.
If your in Birmingham, I would honestly take the 45 minute drive to the VXR Performance Centre, they are very good with Vectra and the software is also very good, being EDS.
