Default Is it mechanical or what? any tips much appreciated

Have a Design CDTI 120 5 Door Vectra new shape -2006 model year

At 60 mph on any road surface in any weather conditions a strange - well flat sounding high pitched sound starts and is there from 60 mph onwards - but nothing under 60 mph. It kicks in exactly at 60 mph

    Have checked the following -

    1. Tyres - replaced all 4 tyres due to natural wear - now shod with Bridgestone ER30 as the car did have Goodyear Excellance on it
    2. Checked all door and hatch seals ( rear drivers door aperture seal was replaced as loose at the top )- all have also been lubricated
    3. New Pads and discs on rear under warranty - Network Q - brakes work fine and the sound is not that made when the brakes need copper grease
    4. Underside of car checked by myself and dealer and no items found with a problem
    5. Aerial checked and compared - it has the new update Vaux aerial with the wire rap
    6. Handbreak Cable was found to be loose when the upgrade on the handbrake was carried out - this was secured as it was tapping the fuel tank
    7. Rear Wheel bearings checked

(also no ghosts etc in back of car .....)

Any thoughts Vectra C as the sound strangly is not noticable from the drivers seat but only from the rear seats or the front passenger seat - but it is for passengers very annoying

Otherwise car drives very well 50 mpg no problem and the DAB Radio is great

If you drop the clutch at said 60mph, I guess the noise is still there, so not gearbox related.

The noise can be heard from the f/n/s passenger seat - front wheel bearings? Have you sat in the front passenger seat or back seats and tried to work out exactly where the noise is eminating from?

Drop each of the windows in turn at 60mph (about 1/8") and check for noise.

Any play in the doors when they're closed? Can you push them further in against the seals when parked up? Could be the door striker/s need adjusting.

What you've got could be aerodynamic or mechanical, hard to tell without someone hearing it.

Is the car standard in every single way?

I'm clutching at straws here but hope it's of use.

As it's under warranty it might be worth speaking to your local, friendly dealer.

If you drop the clutch at said 60mph, I guess the noise is still there, so not gearbox related. - WILL TRY THIS TOMORROW

The noise can be heard from the f/n/s passenger seat - front wheel bearings? Have you sat in the front passenger seat or back seats and tried to work out exactly where the noise is eminating from? - I THINK ITS COMING FROM THE REAR

Drop each of the windows in turn at 60mph (about 1/8") and check for noise.

Any play in the doors when they're closed? Can you push them further in against the seals when parked up? Could be the door striker/s need adjusting. - NOPE DOORS ARE FINE

What you've got could be aerodynamic or mechanical, hard to tell without someone hearing it.

Is the car standard in every single way? TOTALLY STANDARD - I THOUGHT IT WAS THE GOODYEAR EXCELLANCE SO WENT BACK TO ER 30'S

I'm clutching at straws here but hope it's of use. - THANKS FOR THE TIP ON THE CLUTCH / GEAR BOX
