The van fits the description of mobile speed cameras that I've seen, could be lucky though.
Over 50 in a 30, could be looking at a summons for that.
Sounds like it could be a bit more than a fixed penalty, hard to say exactly without knowing the circumstances.

Sounds like it might be an ANPR. If not then as above it'll be £60 and 3 points - maybe a summons depending on exactly where between 50 and 60 you were.

The government are introducing a new 6 points penalty system for anyone doing 20 or more above 30/40 speed limits. Not sure if its already started or not.

Sounds like the police are doing a good job, and after all it was a fair cop. I do however, feel sorry for the guys who get caught doing 32 or 33 in a 30mph area. Your'e licence is currently clean, so its not catastrophic, slow down, there's nothing urgent enough to warrant breaking speed limits, after all we ARE ALL Law abiding drivers on this forum... are we not.

In case anyone missed the following, as its certainly thought provoking.

ade, I want you to look at something here, you say you were doing 50-60mph in what was a 30 zone even though you thought it was a 40 zone and in a van, this indicates the road needs to be a 30 zone for a reason, had you been doing 45 thinking it was a 40 zone it wouldn't be so bad, but if you were at nearly 60 on a 30 zone, you need to evaluate what's what in future, like is it so important to arrive so quick just so you can waste the small time saved chatting or putting a kettle on, as a former pedal jockey I can assure you it isn't and when you collide with something it's the most shrinking feeling I can assure you whether it was your fault or not, take a pool cue and snap it in half, this is somewhere near the sound you hear as a limb breaks, what you did yesterday doesn't matter it's history, now you have to learn from what you made a mess of and go forward smarter for the future, and it may save you and other's a lot of grief in future, a work van is a solid lump and at speed it gets heavier and the impact worse, I know I've got a ****ed up neck for life thanks to a 50mph side impact thx to a DDing van driver, I was lucky I had the awsome Vectra safety shell around me and it took the smash so well, but had I been in say a 1995 cavalier I might now be in a box feeding worms, learn and move on, that £60 fine may well save you a lot more in future.
