    Default Calling computer Guru's...

    Anyone know how to sort out this...

    The new accomodation on camp has built in Internet and Freeview but when I connect up my ethernet cable it gives me - Limited or no connection and this message...

    "You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer"

    The laptop works fine at home connected via Ethernet or Wireless...

    If it matters, its a Apple Macbook Pro and I've tried connecting via OSX Leopard and Windows XP Sp3 via Bootcamp.

    I'm guessing its got to be a problem with my computer settings?

    It should when I load up Internet Explorer automatically redirect me to the hosting companies website.

    The "This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer" part sounds like the DHCP server is not assigning you an IP when you connect via an ethernet cable for some reason? In Windows your ethernet connection settings should be set to "Obtain an IP adrress automatically", if this same process works perfectly fine elsewhere then maybe some sort of access restriction is in place? Is there an admin on site who can help?

    With you using a Mac with both Windows and OSX I wouldn't know where to start trying to help - but it definitely sounds like the server/router is not assigning an IP address.

    As Julian said the easiest way may be to seek out the campus tech guys as they'll know their setup and what settings you need. It could be that you need proxy settings or something else set, which only they would know what they are.

    We could probably give lots of suggestions of which none would work and it may be a very simple setting required for that specific network.
