    Default Cruise control Trippin out

I've had the car two weeks and I've got me first problem.

On the motorway, I can engage cruise control fine no problems but if I want to change speed using the cruise control switches it trips out. Does this when I want to accelerate or decelerate. This happens fairly regularly -mostly in 6th gear, but is intermittent.

Guessing it'll be a warranty job. Any clues as to what it could be?

I've had a similar problem on my Vectra recently - the cruise control switches itself off at strange intervals. On a long overnight run down to Cornwall recently I noticed that it seemed to happen whenever I changed from full beam to dipped headlights, so I'm guessing there's a dodgy connection in the indicator stalk somewhere. Hasn't been to the dealer to be checked out yet though. Also had one time when the cruise control wouldn't switch on at all, but after an engine re-start all was fine again. I have wondered since whether this was because I hadn't use the brakes (came straight out of a service station onto the M5 in the early hours). I read somewhere in the manual afterwards that the cruise control won't turn on until the brakelights have self checked...

On cars with manual transmissions, you can't engage the cruise control until the brake switch has been activated at least once. I believe this is to verify that the brake switch actually works.

Did you all know about the recall on the vectra-C to change the spring on the brake pedal?
the cruise control will fail to work if the brake pedal does not return to the correct position and some early models had a weak spring which will be replaced FOC.

Just wondering if this is related to the problems you are having?

Well it was booked in for tomorrow but....They haven't got the Expertese so they've cancelled. Will have to arrange another day.

It only trips out when I try to adjust the speed with the stalk. Wortst case, Once it starts trippin out it won't re-engage. However on some journeys (like this morning it was fine). I'm thinking the stalk myself.

    Just to confirm, cyb:
I was aware that there were issues with the clutch pedal, but are there also known problems with the brake pedal switch?

    Ta.
