Smile Air Box v K&N v Upgrade Confused!!!!

I am planning on upgrading my Airbox or putting a new panel filter and would welcome some 1/2 sensible advise.

Currently have a 1.9ctdi 150bhp Sri and would like a bit more poke.

I have read info on the "home" Box conversion, but slightly nervous on butching the car!!.

Other thoughts are straight K&N Panel filter, although i have been told that wont make much difference.

Lastly, Induction Kit, but confused on which one, do not want one that is too noisy, but wont mind a bit more grunt.

Over to you lot! You have been very helpfull with all your other advise.

    Heres in anticipation!!

K&N panel filter and Air Box Mod will give u about 8-11bhp extra like mine. Iv had the car on a rolling road and the results were 158bhp with those 2 peformance mods!

Pointless messing around fitting an induction kit unless uv got a cold air flow directly into the intake, if anything ull probably loose power if fitted badly!!!

Here is the HOW2 on changing 2 a performance air filter and doing the air box mod:

The air box mod is free, whereas the K&N isn't.I've got a little used K&N still in its box.Nuff said.

Your spot on with that if the car's out of warranty.

Instead of putting a conventional one-piece fly-wheel onto the back of the engine,Vauxhall (and others) have decided to inflict upon us a 'dual mass fly-wheel' whereby a balance weight is situated inside the fly-wheel and this moves around,counter-acted by springs, which supposedly helps stop vibration.

In reality the springs eventually break and so the balance weight as more freedom of movement and can also break.Everything is contained within the fly-wheel so there isn't any danger of anything coming adrift.

It's just annoying more than anything and expensive to fix because of the necessity to not only fit a new fly-wheel,but also a new clutch and possibly clutch slave cylinder seals.

A panel filter and removing a trumpet won't give anything like 8-11bhp. Your car was probably above the book figure in the first place. I can recommend pipercross filters.
