    Default Humming Noise!!!!!

    Another question Guys

I have a humming noise coming from the front drivers side, it gets louder and more droning the faster i go, and the noise slows down as the car slows down. Also i can feel slight vibration on the pedals.

Im thinking its possibly a noisy tyre, but can it be anything else?

wouldnt the wheel bearing of been picked up on that?

is the dealer the only place for a bearing or is it cheaper elsewhere?

Mine developed the same sound a week after its MOT.

With the modern type bearings you can't detect movement simply by rocking the wheel when it's off the ground. Something to do with the modern design of the bearing assembly think.

Had mine done at a local garage (not VX) and bill came to £200 and yes, they did fit a genuine VX bearing/hub assembly to the n/s front.

Plenty of info on this forum and pattern parts on Flea Bay.

You can get the bearing and sensor from Ebay, i paid £65 each (2) and fitted them myself, didnt take long and am not mechanically minded these days

Still didnt solve the noise so it was the tyres

    Slightly miffed

Just checked ebay, seems a good price, but which one? there are a few on there for an 03 Vectra, but they all look slightly different.

Also i am not mecahnicaly minded, is this job easy for a dimwit to do?

How long can you drive the car with the bearing humming? is it urgent to fix?

You can drop by the Dealers and ask them the part code for the wheel bearing for your car, search on Ebay for the one you need.

You really should rule out the trye first as it is a very easy job and no cost to switch wheels. Then if it is not the trye then it is defo a noisy wheel bearing. Although it may be noisy it doesn't neceserally mean it's faulty unless it's excessively noisy.

    to the site anyway.

If it's badly worn you can hear and feel the bearing grate slightly if you spin the wheel gently and listen close in to the hub. Generally a wheel bearing will start to make enough noise that you fix it long before it gets round to failing so very unlikely to fail in an MOT IMHO. You'd usually get many hundreds of miles from a bearing after the noise got so loud you started to panic.
