As Duncan said its a design issue with the filler neck and not the pump.My wife works at a local garage and said it it only happens to Vectras. The last time it happened they had to get clearance to cut the pump hose and the car was recovered with the nozzle still in the filler. The garage then billed the owner for the damage to the pump .
Happened to me nearly a month ago, was a bit embarrassing trying to pull the nozzle out, but I just gave it one almighty yank, and it came free. Thought it was something i'd done as it was the first time i'd filled up the tank, but now I know to be carefull everytime I fill up! lol
Same thing happened to me this week.
Petrol pump got stuck in the car, not too sure if it was a Total garage but it was in France.
Felt like a total ****, petrol pump stuck in the car and a load of french people waiting impaitently to fill up!!
I think it got caught in the little flap and bent it back and is quite loose now. Never happened before. The petrol pump definately had a few triangle shaped ridges on it which, I think got stuck.
Anyway, if the flap is damaged will it do any harm or is it ok to leave as is?
thx

Same thing happened to me in Tescos at Lee Mill (Plymouth) i was there for a good 5 minutes trying to get the ****** thing out!!!
The nozzles at that station have square rigid undersides....the othe rplaces i go to.. INcluding other Tesco's have a more rounded underside bits..
Just look at the nozzle before inserting it to see if u need to be careful about putting it in all the way!!
I've never had an issue.
What ages are the cars that have been affected? I wonder if a mod was done from the very early models to stop it.
Does anyone have good quality pics of inside their fuel fill neck?
