    Default tappety cold start

    noticed when ive started the car after being sat for a while that it's tappety on tickover, but stops when i rev the car even very slightly

    is it normal for this to happen at this time of year with the cold weather? the car was sat for 12 hours when i heard it first then again when it was sat for 3......

    Mate is yours a 2.2 Direct as well?
    As mine done this for the first time on sunday when it was very cold then it stopped after 3 sec?

    funny u should say that too as my direct had its mot yesterday and the tester said that it was making a funny tappng sound. and guess what it now sounds that bl@@dy obvious. but only wilst the car is cold when its warmed not a whisper.

    its just the hydraulic lifters.

    if it was about 10 year old the noise wouldnt go after 3 seconds, more like 1 minute lol

    dont worry about it.

    the oil drains out of the lifters when you turn the car off, so it takes a few seconds for the oil to buid back up.

    again dont worry about it.

    saying that the chain on those 2.2's could be noisy on start up lol

    but hydraulic lifters make the same noise

    thanks for that haha.
    Think it will be the lifters as it was very cold in the morning and it has not done it since as its been slightly warmer

    Oh yes I think they upgraded the Oil jets 03 on or around that model anyway mines a 05 so should be fine could not be doing with the chain going Nice drive to Paris in a couple of weeks
