Default CDTI V6 Auto 6 speed Help

    Hi
I have posted here earlier regarding a problem I have with my auto gearbox (changing up too late resulting in dreadful mpg) and that Vauxhall are fobbing me off by saying that it is working within acceptable parameters.
So that I can be sure that my car is behaving incorrectly and to have more clout with which to argue with Vauxhall, I would like to travel in another car similar to mine.
Is there anyone prepared to help who lives within a reasonable distance from my home town Leatherhead?
    Best regards
    Ray

think they are intelegent boxes they change gear depending on how you drive so if you drive another car it will most likly change differant its worked out over like 500 miles or something so a car that does all motorway miles will differ from one that always does around town miles

My car gearbox has two moods....the first is when it changes up at 1500rpm, but most of the time it is in its second mood when it waits till 2000rpm. Too high for a large diesel engine which I drive gently almost all the time. It results for example, when travelling is steady traffic at 40mph, it is still in 3rd gear. Even a four speed box would be in fouth, let alone a sixth.

Never driven the 3.0CDTI so dont know how the gearbox behaves, but i wouldnt have thought at 40mph it would be in 6th gear!
What RPM is it doing at 40mph in 3rd?

    Hi bigcarman
That was a typing mistake....i meant to say that even a four speed autobox would be in fourth...let alone a six speed. It is doing 2000rpm...which for a biggish diesel engine is fast....the idea of torquey engine is to benefit from its low down power?

    Hi,

I also have a 3.0 CDTI auto and it behaves exactly as you describe. It seems that prior to the engine warming up the box will change up at around 1500rpm and will be more reluctant to let go of the higherr gear when slowing down. however, once the engine is warm it will delay changing up until 2000rpm (even when driving very gently) and this results in situation where you will often be travelling for long periods with the engine doing 2000rpm which is obviously not great for fuel economy!

    Hi paulea
Glad to hear of someone with the same gearbox behaviour! It seems as though it doesn't bother you? Who pays for your fuel?...lol. Well, it's really driving me mad...not only cos of poor fuel consumption but it also means that the engine is revving faster and with a diesel means its somewhat more noisy too. I have spent a lot of time trying to get Vauxhall to do something about it but have had no luck. One member of staff let it slip that Vauxhall were aware of the problem but were not planning on finding a fix as there are so few of this model on the road. It really is spoiling my enjoyment of the car....it is so sweet when changing at 1500rpm.
    Best regards

    Hi,

It certainly does annoy me. It's a shame because otherwise it's a great car. I usually change up a gear manually if I have to travel for sustained periods at speeds which result in high revs. This is obviously not an ideal solution.
