As it's already broken you won't need to worry about breaking it when removing it - so simply adjust the mirror so that it's pointing inwards towards the car, slip a plastic wedge/spatula or similar in behind the glass and lever it off from the motor mount. New one simply pushes on until it clicks.

the lads at work say its a nightmare getting the new glass in,they say its more of a "crack" than a "click" as the new one breaks as its been pushed in too hard

OK, maybe a loud click then.

It's certainly not a nightmare fitting it - you'd have to be pretty cack-handed to break the glass putting a new one in. All you have to do is make sure you use even force on the middle of the glass when pushing it on as that's where the attaching lugs are that need to click in place. Use the heel of your hand to spread the weight and you'll be fine. If you start pushing on the edges of the mirror then that's when you're likely to start breaking/snapping the glass.
