In a word no - not unless you have this feature fitted.
I think it's possible to have the airbag turned off with Tech 2, but then it'll be off all the time when you're carrying passengers until you get it turned on again.
Is there anywhere I can get just the transponder from?
To be honest babies are best off on the back seat as they're less of a distraction to the driver than on the passenger seat
No, they're only listed as part of the child seats.
The recommendation is definitely to have them in the back, even if the front seat didn't have an airbag. Better protection in a front-on collision.
I'd looked at the possibility of it myself when our first one came along in April and apart from the fact I couldn't disable the airbag, as Dave said it's all to easy to be distracted if they're right next to you. At least in the back if they need any attention, you've got to pull over and see to them which TBH is the safest option.
