Default Signum Heated Rear Window Fault - WEIRD !

    Hi All,

Got a problem with my '06 Signum heated rear window - basically only the bottom three "lines" of the element are working.

Have only had the car 3 months and now it's frosty I have just noticed the problem. Upon closer inspection it actually appears that all the other lines of the heater element (which is "printed" onto the glass) have alternate light and dark areas along each line and then I realised this is because the metallic conducting part is actually missing in the lighter areas.

This is obviously a manufacturing fault and you would have thought this would have come to light after 2 years but of course the car was perviously owned by Vauxhall themselves and has only covered 5000 miles.

My question is therefore this: Has anyone else ever heard of such a fault ? the reason I ask is because I want a bit of background before I make a warranty claim against Vauxhall and they give the usual "looking at me as if I've got three heads" type treatment !!! Alternatively does anyone know if anything could be done without changing the whole rear screen ?

    Thanks all in advance,

    Steve C.

Never heard of that. Maybe the previous owner had put some sort of internal stickers on it and then pulled them off? - that'd guarantee to pull off bits of the element. Maybe you've just got a duff one.

Either way definitely a case of back to the dealers.

I bought my Signum as new ('57-plate but already pre-registered with 20 miles on the clock) back in January and noticed within the week that the middle three elements weren't working. Car was booked in and windscreen replaced under warranty within a few days.

Many thanks, one further question - were you happy with the work ? I have since learned that our local dealer sub-contracts this work to one of the national chains, Silvershield, and I have had loads of problems in the past with such companies. I would rather they gave me the parts and I'd get a trusted independent to do the work.

My 2006 Astra Sporthatch had the same problem. Screen was replaced under warranty.

Work was done by the Veccy garage (Chandlers Ford near Southampton). Thumbs up to the guys there. Been using them for years and not have a problem to date.

Well, they did it - all ok now but be warned, to replace the screen to as original condition you need the seal that runs along the bottom of the glass and the 2 small spongey seals that go at the bottom 2 corners. I insisted on these being ordered at the same time as the screen as all of the old ones are detroyed when the old screen is removed (with the cheese wire type thingy).

    Regards,

    Steve C.
